The problem with QR codes for apps
If your app is on the App Store and Google Play, you have two different links. With a normal QR code you have to choose between:
- Putting two codes on your ad (and hoping each person scans theirs).
- Sending everyone to an interstitial page with two buttons (one more step where people drop off).
The solution: redirect by device
With QR Boost, your QR code detects the scanner's operating system and takes them straight to their store:
| Scanner | Goes to |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | Your app on the App Store |
| Android | Your app on Google Play |
| Computer or other | Your website (main destination) |
Set it up in 1 minute
- Open the editor and paste your website as the main destination.
- In Smart destinations, tap “Set up for an app”.
- Paste the App Store link in the iPhone rule and the Google Play link in the Android rule.
- Style it (colours, your app icon in the centre and a “Get the app” frame).
- Create your free account and download the QR code as SVG or PDF for print.
Tips for app campaigns
- Add UTM parameters in the editor to see in Google Analytics which downloads come from each poster.
- One QR code per placement (poster, flyer, stand) to compare which works best in the stats.
- Measure by device: the stats show how many scans come from iPhone and how many from Android.
- Launching in a new country? Add a country rule to link to that country's store listing.
- Not on Android yet? Send Android users to a waiting list and change the destination on launch day, without reprinting.
Free and never expires
Many services charge for device redirects or switch off the QR code when the trial ends. At QR Boost it's free, with no scan limits, forever.
FAQ
Does it work with iPad?
Yes: iPhones and iPads follow the iPhone rule. Some recent iPads identify as computers; they'll then go to your main destination, so put your website with both buttons there.
Can I change the store links later?
Yes, anytime and without reprinting.
Can I see how many people scan from each phone?
Yes, the stats split scans into iPhone/iPad, Android and other devices.
